North Lake Service Learning Students ready to work at Community Fest

Keep Irving Beautiful, with the help of seven North Lake College Service Learning students, participated in the City of Irving’s Community Fest at Senter Park Recreation Center on Saturday, March 22.  Not only did KIB have an information table, including a prize wheel with questions about recycling and energy conservation, but they also made it a “Green Event” by supplying recycling stations throughout the center and keeping the event litter-free.  The students gave a combined total of over 28 hours of service.

In addition to KIB staff and the North Lake students, three KIB Board members - Rachel Moon, Jan Schriefer and Margie Stipes - also volunteered their time at the event.  “Community Fest has become a tradition for KIB, and we love participating each year,” said Ms. Schriefer.  “We enjoy educating the attendees of all ages about the environment, and they enjoy choosing recycled books as prizes.  Our green event signs and recycling containers remind everyone to recycle whatever they can, not just at home, but also at public events.”

Keep Irving Beautiful is an award-winning, grassroots, non-profit leadership organization dedicated to educating community members about litter abatement, recycling and beautification in order to help preserve the health and promote the social and economic prosperity of our city.  For information on how you can become involved in volunteering with KIB, please go to www.keepirvingbeautiful.org, or call the KIB office at 972-721-2175.
